USCIS Publishes 09/18/26 Edition of Form I-485 on September 18

USCIS publica a edição 09/18/26 do I-485 em 18 de setembro

USCIS will publish on September 18, 2026 the revised edition of Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status). The edition date is 09/18/26.

What changes

The 09/18/26 edition replaces the 01/20/25 edition. The revision aligns the form with the announced final rule on the public charge ground of inadmissibility.

The three dates that decide your filing

The official text is unusual in being this specific. It literally states that:

  • USCIS accepts the 01/20/25 edition if it is mailed or submitted electronically before September 18, 2026;
  • USCIS rejects the 01/20/25 edition if it is mailed or submitted electronically on or after September 18;
  • USCIS only accepts the 09/18/26 edition if it is mailed or submitted electronically on or after September 18.

There is no grace period

That's why USCIS is making a preview version of the 09/18/26 edition and instructions available. And the same operational warning from the other form applies here: do not file the 09/18/26 edition before September 18, 2026.

What to check

The edition date appears at the bottom of the form. If your I-485 package has been assembled for weeks, check the footer on the date of submission — it's the postmark date or electronic submission date that counts, not the date you filled it out.

Next date: September 18, 2026 — publication of the 09/18/26 edition.
